| Tommy out for months |
Tommy Berden has ruptured the tendon in his right arm. Due to a ruptured tendon Tommy can’t use the top of his right thumb, which makes it impossible to play squash at a high level. After undergoing some more tests, Tommy will have to undergo surgery mid December. The first six weeks after the operation Tommy will have to wear a cast to stabilize his arm. In the seventh week Tommy can start his rehabilitation program with the physiotherapist for another six weeks, before being allowed to start light hitting on the court. Overall Tommy will be out for a minimum of five months and will not be able to compete in the Qatar Classic, World Open, World Teams and National Championships.
‘I am extremely disappointed to be out again for five months. Both I and the doctors can’t pin down what caused the tendon to rupture which makes it even harder to swallow. According to the surgeons this type of injury is very rare, especially for sports people. I will undergo surgery in a few weeks time and hope to be fully recovered at the end of March, so I can prepare myself to make a comeback during the European Team Championships at the end of April.’
