Tommy ready for the PSA Quito Open
After a long and quiet summer period Tommy is getting ready for the PSA Quito Open 2005 in Ecuador. This smaller sized (Super Satellite) PSA tournament will start on Friday the 9th of September and will end on Sunday the 11th. Tommy is the number one seed in this tournament and is expected to meet Mexican champion Eric Galvez in the final. However both players have some tricky matches in the early stages of the tournament. Tommy will face Mexican’s Armando Olguin in the first round, before a possible match-up with Colombian number one Bernardo Samper. Samper is flying high with confidence after beating top 50 players Jan Koukal and Liam Kenny in last months Colombian Open. Galvez will most likely face Miguel Rodriguez, also from Colombia, in the quarter finals. Rodriguez also created an upset in the Colombian Open, beating top seed and world number 25, Renan Lavigne, in the first round. Another Dutch player, the talented Tom Hoevenaars, is also competing in Quito. Hoevenaars is seeded fourth and will face Mexican’s Mariano Aguilar in the first round and if successful Canadian’s Michael Reid in the quarter finals.

Tommy has fully recovered from his damaged ankle ligaments that he picked up early May. Since the first week of July Tommy has been back in training and the last two months have gone well. Tommy has been able to do a lot of physical (like strength and stamina) training and is now shifting focus to the on court work. The tournament in Quito will be Tommy’s first tournament in four months and will be his first step towards his goal to climb back up on the world rankings.
