European Team Championships 2005
The Dutch team has finished third at the European Team Championships 2005. In the match for the bronze medal the young and talented Dutch team beat Wales 3-1. Dylan Bennett put the Dutchies 1-0 up with a 3-1 win over Ricky Davies, but team captain Lucas Buit couldn’t capitalize on a few game balls going down 3-0 after 1 hour and 45 minutes against Gavin Jones. With the score tied at 1-1, the numbers one and two of both teams went on court. Tommy clinched the 2nd point for the Dutch team with a 9-6, 10-8, 9-2 win over Alex Gough, the current number 25 of the world. At the same time Laurens Jan Anjema was 2-1 down against David Evans on the adjoining court, which proved to be enough for the Netherlands. Laurens Jan completed the victory to clinch the fourth and fifth game to give the Dutch team a 3-1 win over Wales.

‘It feels great to be on the podium for the first time ever. We have been fourth for a while now, losing to Wales every year in the 3rd and 4th play-off. Both England and France are too strong for us, so third is the highest we can reach at this moment. Personally I am happy with the way I played against Alex Gough and I am looking forward to take this form into my next tournament, the Mamut Dutch Open Squash 2005.’
